While students may be looking forward to wintery fun and having no classes during Winter Carnival, professors said they generally do not partake in traditional events and are planning to use the long weekend to travel. Theater department academic assistant Effie Cummings said she does not attend most Carnival events but enjoys watching students build the snow sculpture.
Effective next school year, Lynn University will require all of its students to purchase iPad minis pre-loaded with summer reading and curriculum texts, Inside Higher Ed reported.
The Jan. 1 fiscal cliff deal, which modified the federal tax code and postponed earlier rulings on discretionary spending cuts, will likely have no long-term effect on charitable giving but could impact the amount of grant money awarded to the College, according to professors and representatives of the College's Advancement division. The fiscal cliff refers to looming tax increases and across-the-board government spending cuts that were to take effect on Jan.
For the second consecutive year, no Dartmouth students were awarded Rhodes scholarships. The Rhodes Trust awards the prestigious prize each year to 32 recipients, who receive full funding to study at the University of Oxford.
Correction appended The 20 members of the Class of 2013 with the highest cumulative grade point averages will be inducted as Junior Members in Course into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society's Dartmouth Chapter in a public ceremony in Filene Auditorium at 5:15 p.m.

Maggie Rowland / The Dartmouth Senior Staff Ariel Diaz '02 Th'04 is offering students across the country an alternative to buying costly textbooks every term through his new startup, Boundless.com, which offers students free compilations of non-copyrighted material in a textbook form. Boundless does not provide actual e-textbooks, but rather uses a mix of government and nonprofit open-licensed content, according to Diaz, who started working on the idea two and a half years ago with co-founder Aaron White. Diaz said that his goal is not only to give students a less costly way to learn, but also to "create an education system that lets every individual perform and learn at their potential and speed." Boundless currently features review videos, flashcards and note-taking tools in addition to textbook information.
