To the Editor: Even though the Student Assembly is currently being reformed, Assembly presidential candidate Jim Rich '96 is advocating reform of the Assembly as if it was a new concept.
Over the past few weeks, a proposal to change the fundamental meal plan system of Dartmouth Dining Services has garnered a lot of attention.
To the Editor: I am writing in response to Tim Young's column in the Oct. 17th issue concerning the Student Assembly ("Assembly Critics Wrong...") Young states,"The inevitable media war has already started and will go on nonstop throughout the campaign." This is ridiculous and implies the Assembly is going to be a circus. When published columns and letters advance viewpoints in a manner that disparages the Assembly in a public forum, members relegate the needs of students below political agendas.
Over the past few weeks a number of students have advocated changes in the housing structure, discussing issues such as freshmen dorms and the housing shortage.
This Tuesday, the Student Assembly will begin to vote on a new constitution. This constitution will not include any change in the representational system, even though many students have expressed dissatisfaction with its current form. I have submitted an amendment which would replace the current "at-large" system with a class representation system.
Artzer Must Offer Leadership
Long a staple for women seeking guidance, the Older and Wiser Program for Men, which seeks to acquaint seniors and freshmen, will begin its second year tomorrow night. The program was established last year as a counterpart to the Older and Wiser Program for Women, which is now in its sixth year. During tomorrow's introductory meeting in Webster Hall, the 175 participating freshmen will be matched up with their senior partners. The freshmen will also hear words of advice from Dean of Freshmen Peter Goldsmith and Senior Associate Dean of Students Dan Nelson. Duncan Hodge '94 and David Zug '94 are directing the program for men. Included in their plans are movie nights, panel discussions and receptions to bring the big and little brothers together. The big brothers seem eager to meet their little brothers.
