Showcasing a variety of arts, ‘Igniting' attempts too much

On Friday, the multimedia spectacle "Igniting Imagination" organized in honor of the Hopkins Center's 50th Anniversary Celebration Weekend showcased the diverse artistic accomplishments of the College's students and alumni through a series of segments that included singing, dancing, theater and film.

‘Charting the Universe' spotlights scientific instruments

Nathan Yeo / The Dartmouth Senior Staff Inspired by the painting "Portrait of a Lady as an Astronomer," Kresge Library's "Charting the Universe" exhibit, which is on display in Fairchild Hall, draws on objects from Dartmouth's King Collection of Historic Scientific Instruments to showcase the tools that contribute to our visual understanding of the universe. New fall DFS series ‘The Return' highlights the theme of reunions

Courtesy of Blogcdn.com The Dartmouth Film Society's fall series, titled "The Return," features 20 films that highlight the themes of homecoming and reunions, according to Alex Gerstein '15, who collaborated with Abbie Kouzmanoff '15 to create the series. "With the Hopkins Center celebrating its 50th anniversary, it's interesting to look at how the past meets the present," Gerstein said. The films that will be screened this fall all cover the topic of revisiting the past. "I thought the timing was appropriate, what with everyone returning from the summer break," he said.

Erdrich's works examine Native American, mixed heritage

Louise Erdrich '76, who is the acclaimed writer of 13 novels and is in residence at the College as a Montgomery Fellow, will engage in a public conversation with Native American studies professor Bruce Duthu this afternoon to discuss the themes in her works and read from her recently published book "Shadow Tag." Erdrich is a significant contributor to the field of contemporary American literature.
