“This Dartmouth Life” brings radio journalism to campus

rogram “This Dartmouth Life” officially began in the Shakespeare Room in Sanborn Library last September, founder Laura Sim ’16 said that the idea for the program started with an interview she heard where Chicago Public Media’s “This American Life” host Ira Glass talked about achieving dreams.

Exhibit in Baker Library honors Eisenman’s ’43 work

Alvin Eisenman ’43, a world-famous graphic designer who died in September 2013, saw each letter on a page as an art form — he believed that a letter should be as “pleasing” and “dynamic” as an independent mark, exhibit curator, instructor at the College’s Letterpress Studio and former Eisenman student Won Chung ’73 said.

Tennis teams kick off 2015 season undefeated

The men’s and women’s tennis teams started their winter indoor season off strong last Saturday, with both teams seeing successful results from their home matches. The Big Green men dominated on Saturday, defeating both the State University of New York at Buffalo and Bryant University with respective scores of 7-0 and 6-1. The women’s team clinched a hard-fought victory over Boston College, with a score of 4-3.

Men’s basketball’s defense shuts down NJIT

In a low scoring victory over New Jersey Institute of Technology, the men’s basketball team led for all but 3 minutes and 11 seconds Saturday in a start-to-finish effort to beat the Highlanders 62-63. The Big Green's defense forced 23 turnovers for NJIT, a season high.

Provost Dever calls for more faculty cluster proposals

Provost Carolyn Dever is pushing for faculty members across disciplines to send in a second round of proposals for the College’s Cluster Initiative — a program allowing faculty to form groups with the aim of solving complex issues of global importance. Dever sent out her request last Thursday, and proposals are due on Feb. 16.

I find myself glancing over fashion week highlights each year and thinking, who would wear that? Why would someone design that? I wouldn’t be able to fit through a doorway if I tried wearing that dress. I’m always left wondering — why does runway fashion seem so...impractical?

Women’s hockey ends Harvard’s 10-game win streak

Dartmouth women’s ice hockey, scoreless through the first two periods, exploded for four goals in the third period to sink no. 5 Harvard University, 4-2, on Saturday at Thompson Arena, extending its own win streak to four and severing Harvard’s 10-game win streak in the process.

Men’s hockey drops two games in disappointing weekend

The Dartmouth men’s ice hockey team dropped a pair of home games against St. Lawrence University and Clarkson University last weekend. After an impressive stretch of hockey during the winter interim period, the Big Green has run into some trouble finding its rhythm again after tying with the University of New Hampshire two weeks ago.

Students stage protest prior to MLK events

While official programming for the College’s social justice themed celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. officially begins today, about 40 students joined in a protest in Baker-Berry Library last night, chanting “black lives matter, we can’t breathe.” The protest comes before a lecture and programming that will address the events surrounding the killing of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo. and general issues of social justice and civil rights.


Applications for the Class of 2019 are up six percent from last year.

Applications for Class of 2019 up six percent

Nearly 20,500 students have applied for acceptance to the Class of 2019, representing a more than six percent increase in applications over last year, according to Dartmouth Now. This follows a more than 10 percent increase in the number of students who applied to Dartmouth through the early decision program.
