Gospel Choir performed mix of songs on Saturday

The Dartmouth College Gospel Choir took on a cloudy day and cold weather to bring together a mix of classical and traditional gospel music to help uplift their audience and bring a message of joy and inspiration to the College at its annual fall concert.

“Sicario” (2015) shines through with its cartel craft

Movies these days are addicted to drugs cartels. So popular in fact, they have become been Netflix-ized into the new series “Narcos” (2015). Too many action thrillers employ some drug kingpin as an antagonist crutch, a cardboard cutout of a classical evil whom the bad-ass good guys can shoot at, chase and kill. “Sicario” (2015) works within this mold, but manages to come out as a crystallized, complex negotiation of border politics injected with pinpoint acting and lush cinematography.

Women’s hockey sweeps weekend

The women’s hockey team recorded a pair of shutout victories this weekend, knocking off Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 4-0 on Friday and Union College 2-0 on Saturday, to improve its record to 4-2-2 overall and 4-1-2 in conference play. \n In Friday night’s match-up, Lindsey Allen ’16 opened the scoring with just under three minutes left to play in the first period, deflecting an Eleni Tebano ’17 slap shot from the top of the circle past Engineers goaltender Lovisa Selander on a power play.

Students stage a protest in solidarity with Missouri and Yale, drawing both support and controversy

Chants of “We shall overcome” and “Black Lives Matter” echoed through the Green yesterday evening as more than 150 students, faculty, staff and community members dressed in black, walked from Novack Café to Dartmouth Hall in a demonstration of solidarity with the black communities at University of Missouri and Yale University and the larger Black Lives Matter movement.

Counselors express concern over admissions coalition

In late September, the College announced that it would join the Coalition for Access, Affordability and Success, which has prompted mixed responses from college counseling offices across the country. The Coalition offers a platform that will serve as an alternative to the Common App by allowing students to create a digital portfolio over the course of their high school experience.
