With 19 first-place finishes, the men’s and women’s track and field teams showcased their capabilities at the George Davis Invitational, held at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell on April 19 and 20. This weekend, the teams competed in the 2024 Ivy League Heptagonal Outdoor Championships in Princeton, where the women’s team placed seventh and the men’s team placed fifth.

Ten members of the Dartmouth triathlon team competed at the 2024 USA Triathlon Collegiate Club national championship in Mission Viejo, California on April 13 and 14. According to the Dartmouth physical education and recreation website, the race marked the team’s first time at the national championship in its 10-year history.

In 2022 — the fall of her freshman year — New York-native Olivia Pichardo tried out for the Brown University baseball team, despite its historically men-only roster. Pichardo ultimately made the cut, joining the spring roster and becoming the first women to play NCAA Division I baseball in the division’s history. Pichardo also joined the USA Baseball Women’s National Team in 2022.

The Dartmouth men’s and women’s golf seasons are underway, despite snowy weather at the start of the term. Both teams have fared well in their tournaments to date, with the women’s team securing a third-place finish in the Rutgers Invitational and the men’s team taking second at the Columbia Autumn Invitational from April 6 to 7.

On April 7, Billy Bender ’24 and Oliver Bub ’20 won the men’s pair at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic team trials in Sarasota, Fla. The duo will represent the United States in the men’s pair at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

On March 30, 200 students gathered at the Dartmouth Skiway to participate in Pond Skim — an annual College tradition celebrating the end of the winter ski season. Participants skied down a short run and then skimmed across a pool of water dressed in “flair” — wacky and colorful clothing emblematic of Dartmouth’s silly traditions.

The College named Roger Federer its 2024 commencement speaker on March 28, prompting excitement and surprise from community members. On campus, tennis players on the women’s and men’s varsity teams — as well as members of club tennis — reacted positively to Federer’s upcoming speech and visit to campus.

The Big Green returned from the 2024 NCAA skiing championships with two national titles — John Steel Hagenbuch ’25 won the 7.5k freestyle, and Jasmine Drolet ’25 took first place in the 20k freestyle. The team as a whole finished in fourth place.

Dartmouth Men’s Hockey finished out the season on a seven-game win streak — their longest streak in nine years — propelling the Big Green from ninth in the ECAC Hockey standings to fourth. After beating Union College in the ECAC quarterfinals, the Big Green lost to No. 14 Cornell University at the Hockey Championship Weekend on March 22. It was the Big Green’s first appearance in the ECAC semifinals since the 2015-2016 season.

Following a seventh place finish in the Ivy League last season, the Big Green softball team has struggled to gain traction this year. The team enters the spring term with a 4-9 record, following two tournaments, as well as games against Harvard University and Boston College.

Today, Dartmouth College declined a request to bargain with the men’s basketball team's union, College spokesperson Jana Barnello wrote in an email statement to The Dartmouth. On March 5, members of the team voted to unionize as part of the Service Employees International Union, Local 560 in a historic 13-2 vote, according to past reporting by The Dartmouth.
