If you ever made your friends play Party Quirks when they came over or had a rendition of “Hoedown” as your ringtone, you were probably about as excited as I was to hear that “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” has returned for another season. And this time, you can add Dartmouth pride to the long list of reasons you watch — Aisha Tyler ’92 is the show’s new host.

Last spring, a moose bounded across campus. This summer, the Tabard coed fraternity’s python slithered out of its house, garnering national media attention. The rumors are true: Hanover is wilder than ever before. Campus is abuzz with snapchats and muploads of fraternity puppies and ball snakes, creatures that roam from the Connecticut River to your Wednesday night pong game.

With half of our Dartmouth careers under our belts, sophomore family weekend is a time for our parents to visit and see how much we have learned and grown over the last two years. The awkwardness of freshman year is long gone, and they can observe us in our elements – meet our real friends, see where we hang out and discuss our experiences.

A dunk tank and a pie-throwing event comprised two of the carnival-style booths run by Greek houses at Saturday’s Jamboree for the Junction. Students, parents and community members came out in full force to support the Junction, a center for at-risk teens in the Upper Valley, while enjoying performances from dance groups Shebalite, Splendaplum and Ujiheavy, as well as music from a cappella group Summerphonix and live band Dan Calano and the Euphemisms.

East Wheelock is different from other freshman dorms because it is designed to be a social and intellectual community rather than a mere living space. It is sometimes given the stereotype of being the nerdy, antisocial dorm, but East Wheelock has a community and vibrant culture that makes for a strong freshman residential experience.

Breaking their fast with dates and cold water, Muslim students and community members gathered to celebrate the holy month of Ramadan Tuesday night. The annual Ramadan dinner was hosted by campus Muslim student association Al-Nur, and offered a time to reflect on the holiday’s traditions over a catered dinner in Collis Commonground.

We’ve all heard it before: the College is an Ivy League school, but it’s also basically summer camp. You only get to experience Camp Dartmouth once, and we’re halfway through, so it’s time to set aside your books and get out there. There are places to explore, bucket lists to complete and marshmallows to roast. As a self-identified camp person – last year was the first that I didn’t go back – I’ve taken it upon myself to share some of the College’s best camp activities.

Housing assignments are in, ’17s, and the blitz you just read has huge implications for your first three terms on campus. Even though we can’t tell you the big stuff (Will you meet your future Masters partner? Will your roommate be down for your Kate Middleton baby shower themed pre-game? How long will you last before the dreaded floorcest goes down?), we can help you out with the basics.

As a highlight of sophomore summer and a national holiday (meaning classes are canceled), the Fourth of July brings with it no shortage of celebrations both on and off campus. As you begin to plan your Independence Day festivities, make sure to carve out time between trips to the river and barbeque hopping to check out a few of these events in the area on the Fourth:

It finally feels like spring on campus now that the Green is once again green, the squirrels are out of hibernation and shorts weather has become the norm. One aspect of this new season many students may not be as familiar with is the arrival of Hanover street vendors.

With the forecast set for 70s and sunny through Saturday, it can only mean one thing: Green Key is here. Every year, the weather magically turns around right before this glorious weekend of basking in the sun and letting the good times roll. Get ready for alumni and students on off-terms filtering in to visit, Safety and Security upping their patrol, and sundresses and Chubbies taking over.

Talking to strangers is hard for me. As someone without gallons of charisma at my disposal, I often find myself hesitant to introduce myself to new people. I didn’t realize the extent of this problem of mine until coming to Dartmouth. Even with two terms under my belt I still don’t know most of my freshmen class.
