Throughout the month of May, a student planning committee in collaboration with the Office of Pluralism and Leadership hosted a series of events to celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month on campus.Activities included a free boba tea event, a symposium about Asian American Studies and a South Asian dance workshop.

On Tuesday, Article 11 — a residential housing ordinance — was passed at the annual Hanover Town Meeting by a vote of 775 to 565, according to numbers from the Valley News. The warrant for the meeting states that the passage of Article 11 will establish a new zoning district along West Wheelock Street.

Last week, my friend’s history professor had COVID-19 — and without class for a few days, she had much less work than usual. When she explained this to one of our other friends, they rolled their eyes at her. “Well, that’s just the humanities,” they said with a sigh.

The annual Hanover Town Meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 10 in the Hanover High School gymnasium, where polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters will have the opportunity to decide on 26 articles — four of which have been submitted by Dartmouth students.

Brian Markee’s colleagues fondly remember him as a compassionate library staff member who maintained a positive outlook during his time at the College. Markee, who died on March 29 at age 60 from cancer, left an indelible impact on his workplace with his charm and dedication, according to his coworkers

College president Phil Hanlon and his wife, Gail Gentes, tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday morning, the College announced on May 1. According to the announcement, the pair had tested negative on a PCR test as recently as Thursday morning before testing positive on antigen tests over the weekend.

Saint Motel and KYLE will perform as co-headliners with Doechii set as the opening musician for the Programming Board’s Green Key concert on May 20, the Programming Board announced today via Instagram. The concert, which will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Gold Coast Lawn, will kick off the first Green Key festival since 2019.

As the effects of inflation, labor shortages and the prospect of a recession loom over the national economy, Hanover business owners said they have faced unique challenges in finding ways to adapt their business models. Business owners also mentioned that the high living costs of the Upper Valley and seasonal flow of business around the Collegepose further difficulties with employment.

Students elected David Millman ’23 and Jessica Chiriboga ’24 as student body president and vice president, respectively, after the end of a two-day voting period on Tuesday. In the election, students also selected next year’s house senators, senior class leaders and other student representatives for Student Assembly.

Students have elected David Millman ’23 and Jessica Chiriboga ’24 as student body president and vice president, respectively, according to an email sent by the Elections Planning and Advisory Committee this evening. The two ran unopposed for their positions on a platform that emphasized reopening late-night dining at Collis Cafe, adding a student member to the Board of Trustees and establishing universal teletherapy, according to a campaign email sent to students on Monday.

Longtime Baker-Berry Library worker Brian Markee died peacefully in his home in Piermont, N.H., on March 29 after a protracted fight against cancer, according to an email from College president Phil Hanlon and a Ricker Funeral Home obituary. He was 60 years old.

On April 7, the College announced a $88 million expansion and renovation of the Hopkins Center for the Arts, with the goal to “enhance opportunities for artistic exploration and growth” in the building. The expansion is part of the College’s $3 billion Call to Lead campaign.

For the first time since spring 2019, the fall housing selection process will return to the pre-pandemic room draw system, in which students receive a randomly assigned priority number for choosing housing. Over the last two years, the College has resorted to a system of randomized preference due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite this year’s changes to the housing selection process, some students — especially seniors, who are required to take classes in their final year — are worried about not getting a place to live on campus.

Longtime Collis Cafe employee Donna O’Gara died at home on Monday, April 11, according to an email from College president Phil Hanlon and a Valley News obituary. She was 64 and surrounded by family at the time of her death.

On April 27, a repatriation ceremony will take place at the Mohegan Cultural and Preservation Center in Connecticut for the College to return the Samson Occom papers, which include diaries and autobiographical statements belonging to Occom — a co-founder of Dartmouth — to his native Mohegan Tribe.
