Six Jewish undergraduate students have been given the pseudonyms Daniel, Dylan, William, Sarah, Phoebe and Lucy. They each have been granted anonymity to speak candidly about their experiences.
Kexin Cai GR died at age 26, Dean of the Guarini School of Graduate and Advanced Studies Jon Kull wrote in an email to campus. The Lebanon Police Department and New Hampshire Fish and Game found Cai — who was reported missing on May 17 — dead Monday afternoon “after an extensive search,” according to Kull.
On May 19, the Dartmouth Student Government Senate met for its eighth weekly meeting of the spring term. Led by student body president Jessica Chiriboga ’24, the Senate discussed how to handle emergency situations — such as the May 1 protest — in the future. The Senate also outlined its broad goals for next fall, which include improving free speech policies and communication between DSG and students.
Students arrested at the May 1 protest will not face suspension or expulsion, College President Sian Leah Beilock announced during the May 20 faculty meeting. According to Beilock, the College has now concluded its disciplinary process for the arrested students.
On May 20, the Faculty of Arts and Sciences voted to censure College President Sian Leah Beilock during a faculty meeting. One hundred and eighty three faculty members voted in favor of the motion to censure Beilock, and 163 voted against it.
This month, former Student Body President David Millman ’23 received the Knight-Hennessy scholarship — which fully funds up to three years of attendance at any of Stanford University’s seven graduate schools, according to the College scholarship webpage. Millman, who is currently completing his Masters of Science in local economic development at the London School of Economics, will use the fellowship to study at Stanford Law School. Kexin Cai GR, a graduate student in the psychological and brain sciences department, was reported missing to the Lebanon Police Department on May 17, Safety and Security director Keiselim Montás wrote in an email statement to The Dartmouth. Cai was last seen on the afternoon of May 15.

On May 13, the Rohr Chabad Center at Dartmouth and Hillel at Dartmouth co-hosted a candlelight vigil on the Green in remembrance of fallen Israeli soldiers and victims of terrorism. The event honored Yom HaZikaron, Israel’s national memorial day for fallen soldiers.
A slight majority — 51.86% — of participating undergraduate students voted no confidence in College President Sian Leah Beilock’s leadership, Dartmouth Student Government announced in a campus-wide email. According to the announcement, 2,748 students, or around 58.71% of active undergraduates, participated in the referendum, which DSG organized in response to Beilock’s actions on the May 1 pro-Palestinian protest.
On April 26, administrators from the College, the Geisel School of Medicine and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center indefinitely postponed a lecture by retired obstetrician-gynecologist Alice Rothchild, titled “Health and Human Rights Consequences of War on Gaza.” Rothchild — who is also a member of the Jewish Voice for Peace — said she “wasn’t given a clear reason” why the original talk, set to take place on May 16 in Oopik Auditorium, was postponed.
On April 23, the Ivy League filed an amicus brief — a brief filed by external parties in “cases of significance or high interest,” according to the National Labor Relations Board website — to the NLRB. The brief sided with the Dartmouth Board of Trustees against the unionization of the College’s men’s basketball team.
The 52nd annual Dartmouth Powwow — originally planned to occur on the Green — has been moved to Leede Arena, Native American Program director Adria Brown wrote in an email to Native American and Indigenous students. The Powwow will still be held Saturday, May 11, and grand entry will occur at noon, according to the event poster.
Prosecutors in the Lebanon District Court are moving forward with criminal proceedings for individuals arrested on the Green last week, with arraignment court dates scheduled for July 15 and Aug. 5, according to Hanover Police Department lieutenant Mike Schibuola.

Approximately 150 students, faculty and community members gathered on the Baker lawn this afternoon for a pro-Palestinian rally, titled “The Endowment is Political.” The rally was organized by the Dartmouth New Deal Coalition, a student activist group that advocates for divestment from companies with affiliations with Israel.

On May 5, the Dartmouth Student Government Senate anonymously voted 8 - 9 - 2 in a closed session meeting to fail a vote of no confidence in College President Sian Leah Beilock’s leadership, according to an email to campus from student body president Jessica Chiriboga ’24. The vote in closed session came after Chiriboga vetoed the Senate’s initial vote of no confidence, which had been held in the public meeting and passed 13 - 2 - 3.
On May 1, local and state law enforcement detained more than 90 students, faculty and other individuals at a pro-Palestinian protest on the Green. Individuals were arrested beginning shortly before 9 p.m. on charges of criminal trespass and, for some, resisting arrest.
