Dartbeat Asks: Ideal FoCo Day
FoCo can often be hit or miss. Either Ma Thayer’s, the Pavilion or World View has your favorite or you must resign to eating something subpar and redeeming the meal with a chocolate chip cookie. We asked around to see what it would look like if all the stars aligned and your FoCo experience was everything you wanted it to be.
Sarah Han ’17: “My ideal FoCo day, if we’re talking about lunch, would definitely be a Chicken Monday with breaded chicken cutlets at Ma Thayer’s. For dinner, I’d like it to be German Week at World View because you can get pretzel rolls and bratwurst or chicken sausage and General Tso’s chicken at Ma Thayer’s. I’d finish my FoCo meal off by either having two cookies with Moose Tracks ice cream, or Greek yogurt with Grape-Nuts, peaches and cinnamon. I’d also really love the s’mores balls at the dessert section.”
Nick Vernice ’18: “My ideal FoCo day would consist of walking in to the sight of General Tso’s tofu with a modest line at the vegetarian station, as well as regular General Tso’s chicken at Ma Thayer’s. I would proceed to load my plate with both, as well as two chicken breasts doused in guacamole and banana peppers peppered atop. I would eat that with a glass of vanilla Silk soymilk. For round two, I’d have a piece of cheeseburger or taco pizza, because I’m daring. Then I’d have yogurt with granola and almond butter and Moose Tracks ice cream with Oreos, Heath Bar crunch and hot fudge.
Will Paja ’16: “Freshly squeezed orange juice and waffles in the morning. At lunch it would be the caprese panini with mozzarella, basil and tomato. For dinner, they’d have the miso ginger salad in the Kosher section. They’d also have the potato bar where they have different kinds of French fries and baked potatoes and they have cheese sauce and bacon bits and other toppings. Finally, there’d be s’mores balls in the dessert section.”
Hannah Petrone ’17: “My ideal day would be Burrito Week at World View, peanut butter cookies at the dessert section, mint chocolate chip for ice cream. Kosher would have that really good baked chicken. There would be buffalo chicken pizza at the pizza section and honey vanilla yogurt at the yogurt bar.”
Doug Phipps ’17: “I like when they have samosas in the vegetarian section and shrimp curry at Ma Thayer’s. They have chicken nuggets every day, but they’re good every day. And chocolate chip cookies, which they also have every day.”
Peter Warren ’18: “I’m a big fan of World View in general, especially Burrito Week and Sushi Week. I also love the pasta and when there are churros in the dessert section.”
Nikhil Arora ’16: “Kosher salmon, Greek yogurt, burrito or bibimbap at World View. For lunch, the panini maker is always a go-to. I usually get the bread from the vegetarian station and I put some chicken salad, Swiss cheese, bacon, a little pesto and cranberry sauce. Kosher salmon is by far my favorite though.”
Abena Frempong ’17: “Jamaican jerk chicken with lemon-zested rice from Ma Thayer’s. They’d also have the Cabot, crackers and fruit expo and almond cookies for dessert.”
Nathan Busam ’17: “They’d have salmon at Kosher, Chicken Monday at Ma Thayer’s, Indian vegetable samosas and green curry at the vegetarian section and bibimbap at World View. The pizza would be something healthy, like the whole-wheat vegetable pizza and they’d have chicken noodle soup. I’d also really like the vegan cookies and mint chocolate chip ice cream.”
