A "Clueless" Style Guide
“Clueless” (1995) is one of my favorite movies. There’s just something about ’90s romantic comedies that I love. Maybe it’s the catchphrases the characters use? No, it’s definitely the clothes — especially the film’s lead Cher Horowitz’s. Who doesn’t want a closet that is probably bigger than most dorm rooms or an app to help you pick out your outfit? Wait, there are already so many apps for that.
Even after 18 years since the movie debuted, the clothes in this movie have surpassed many fashion trends, but everything still looks, well, stylish. Better yet, a lot of the outfits and accessories are on today’s runways, magazine spreads and blogs. So it’s time to raid your mother’s closet! But if your mom is anything like mine and gives everything away, you’re going to have to do some shopping. But it’ll be worth it — you’re going to look like a total Betty!

What makes Cher’s look so great is that she keeps it simple. This is why viewers today are still obsessed with her outfits. This is a good thing and a bad thing. She always looks great, but never takes any risks. Sure, we may not go crazy over Amber’s sailor outfit or Dionne’s Dr. Seuss-inspired hat, but hey, we have to admire them for it. If there is anything we can take away from “Clueless,” it may just be to wear what you want, not what people expect.
