Learn to make easy chocolate desserts
Love dessert? Always wanted to attempt baking but scared that it is too difficult? Here are two dessert recipes provided by Anoush Arakelian ’14 and myself! They may sound fancy but that's really just a cover: These are easy to make and guaranteed to impress. Enjoy!
1. Tarte au chocolat (Arkelian learnt how to make this from her host mom in France!)
- 1 pie crust
- 7 oz. chocolate (any kind — experiment!)
- 1 egg
- 2.5 oz. milk or cream (you can substitute this with any type of creamy food item)
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and put the pie crust in a pan. Bake for 10 minutes.
Mix the milk/cream and bring it to a boil on the stove.
Melt the chocolate and add it to the mixture. Whisk the chocolate and milk.
Let it cool and add the egg.
Beat the mixture until it is fully incorporated. Pour into the pastry shell and bake for 15 min.
2. Chocolate almond biscotti (One of the only two desserts I know how to make, therefore I'm sure anyone can make this!)
Ingredients:
- ¾ cup almonds (precision not required)
- 2/3 cup chocolate chips
- 2/3 cup white sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract (if you are forgetful like me, you can substitute maple syrup or brown sugar for vanilla extract)
- 1 teaspoon baking power
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cups of flour
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees, then toast the almonds.
Mix sugar and eggs until thick and pale, add in vanilla extract.
Mix flour, baking power and salt in another bowl. Add to egg mixture.
Add toasted almonds and chocolate.
Transfer and roll the dough into a log shape. If the mixture if too sticky, you can add a bit of flour, but avoid adding too much. One effective way is to put a lot of flour on the surface of the dough so you can roll it easily.
Put in oven for 25 minutes.
Take the log shaped biscotti out and cut it in slices.
Bake for 8-10 minutes on one side, then turn them over and bake 8-10 minutes on the other side.
