Re: Dartmouth only Ivy to abstain from signing letter against Trump administration funding cuts
Like Professor Bethany Moreton, I am embarrassed that Dartmouth is the only Ivy League school to have its president refrain from signing the letter from the American Association of Colleges and Universities that condemns the Trump administration’s revocation of federal funding from universities. The letter has been co-signed by presidents of over 320 public and private colleges and universities. The signature of Dartmouth’s president is conspicuously absent from the letter.
The Trump administration’s attacks on higher education are doing great damage to our country’s society and culture, our future as a leader in learning, research, advances in knowledge, and in enhancing our understanding of the complexities of the world around us. The result is that we are worse off now and in the future. It is very disappointing that Dartmouth is not helping to lead the efforts to combat those attacks.
