Re: Dartmouth only Ivy to abstain from signing letter against Trump administration funding cuts
Somehow, I knew something like this would happen. Appointing Matthew Raymer ’03 – with his ties to Donald Trump and his anti-democratic ideology – as the College’s general counsel, was always going to be a mistake.
You’d have to be blind not to see Mr. Raymer’s fingerprints on this. Not an “an effective way to defend Dartmouth’s mission and values?” Please. The college would “prefer to focus on the work we are doing and the actions we are taking?” As if signing the letter would detract from that “focus.” Dartmouth is a college of thinking people, and yet the president’s office resorts to a jargony, tone-deaf defense.
Trump has started a war against higher education. Does Dartmouth not see that?
I love Dartmouth – always will – but I’m sickened by this. Please, President Beilock, sign the letter and ask for Mr. Raymer’s resignation.
