Letter to the Editor: A Message for President Beilock

William Donovan ’69 asks College President Sian Beilock to reconsider her signing the AACU Letter.

Dear President Beilock,

I am a 1969 graduate of Dartmouth and a lifelong contributor to the College.

I read in yesterday’s newspaper that nearly two hundred colleges have bravely joined together to oppose Donald Trump’s efforts to harm and control America’s universities. The list included all of the Ivy League schools except Dartmouth. By this failure to act, the College’s leadership has brought shame on our school. Your explanation for not signing on is, to be honest, lame — to paraphrase it, “I don’t do group letters.” As Dartmouth history professor Bethany Moreton expressed it, you are “embarrassing” Dartmouth.

Please reconsider your position for the good of our school.

Sincerely,

William J. Donovan ’69
