Coming from sunny Arizona to frigid cold of New Hampshire was more than a little intimidating as I prepared for my first term at Dartmouth. I’m a proud NARP (check out ‘A Blitz by Any Other Name’ in this issue for a translation), and I didn’t know what a Thermarest was until I read it on my freshmen trip packing list. Since then, I’ve gained a countless amount of fun adventure stories, random Dartmouth trivia, warm wool socks and even a Thermarest of my own.
I hope you’re looking forward to your undergraduate experience, because I know my first two years have flown by way too fast. You’re undoubtedly going to be besieged with well-intentioned advice in the coming weeks, but allow me to wax nostalgic just a little more.
As you prepare for your first fall term, don’t be intimidated by the stereotypes you hear. You might become a little crunchier and a lot more critical during your time here, but realize that your Dartmouth experience is just that – yours to make your own. Everyone at Dartmouth has something to teach you, so come with an open mind and be ready to explore what the College has to offer as much as you can. I hope you enjoy this issue and all of the fun information inside.
