Most of us know the big changes that Dartmouth has faced: President Kim's brief stint in Hanover is over and classes have begun a week and a half ahead of last year's schedule. However, many smaller changes have crept right past us. Fortunately, we here at The Mirror have compiled a short guide to getting used to the new normal. We'll all make it through these trying, tumultuous times together.
Topside becomes Collis Market
While this change will do little to affect the day-to-day experience of shopping at the campus convenience store, it rectifies a striking contradiction. Previously, students just could not understand why they couldn't find their last-minute pregame supplies and late night munchies on Collis' first or second floors, but now they will be sure to search all three levels to find the goods.
Water fountains have water bottle fillers
In previous years, First-Year Trips were all talk when they handed out water bottles and tried to sell Dartmouth as a green campus. But now that you can hold your water bottle upright in a water fountain rather than tilt it to fill it, our world has transformed for the better! Watch out, global warming we're coming at you.
Better programming on TVs in the Zimmerman Fitness Center
Honestly, I can't give this one too much sass. I personally have trouble watching Paula Deen pour pure lard into a pan while working out, but it's comforting to know I now have the option to see her or Miley Cyrus if I wanted to while on the elliptical. A word of advice it's probably better to enjoy the Disney Channel programming during non-facetimey hours (read: never).
Late Night Collis stays open on weekends
This is the best thing to happen to Dartmouth since the Morano Gelato milkshake (if you haven't, try it right now). Smoothies, creative baked goods and pho available seven nights a week? We'll take it.
DDS offers block meal plans in addition to weekly meal plans
Recalling the anxiety my freshman friends faced last year while trying to use all 20 of their swipes each week, the block plan seems like a pretty intelligent solution. DDS doesn't seem to think so, though. The original plan is still called SmartChoice, while the new one is called BlockChoice. Since all students are required to get a meal plan, is it really a choice at all?
Boloco's crazy new soda machine
Certainly the most futuristic device I have seen within the Hanover town limits, Boloco's soda machine does not disappoint. Sure, it does the exact same thing as the soda machine it replaced, but touching a screen rather than holding your cup against a lever is on another level.
Market Table brunch
Trying to compete with Lou's in brunch is like trying to outswim Michael Phelps. Sure, there might be a sexier, younger competitor in the field, but we know who has the most gold medals.
