The DDS Detective

When I was younger, my mom was one of those moms. You know, the one who put carrot sticks in your lunch instead of cheese doodles, who only let you eat Cocoa Puffs on your birthday and who always got mad at you for trying to sneak Lunchables into the grocery cart. As a result, going over to a friend's house for me was akin to entering a treasure trove of snacks and goodies I had only seen from afar on a grocery store shelf or in one of those clich TV commercials that inevitably involved a talking animal. In fact, I always looked forward to going over to this one friend's house in particular because as soon as we walked through the door, her mother would be waiting for us with a hot plate of Bagel Bites every child's most coveted after-school snack. While I eventually grew out of my obsession with all things processed, frozen and pre-packaged, I still crave a Bagel Bite every so often. So this week, I have located that small part of my childhood in Collis, where I have found a way to create everyone's favorite: the pizza bagel.

**Note: this recipe only works at dinner-time.

1.Get a bagel from Collis and cut it in half using the bagel slicer.2.Toast it. 3.Go over to the place with the meatballs and just ladle some tomato sauce on both halves. 4.Sprinkle cheddar cheese from the salad bar (or whichever cheese you would like) on top you can even add veggies if you want to make it a little more substantial. 5.Pop each half in the microwave for 1 minute. And I know that you can't put a price on childhood memories but how great does $1.40 for dinner sound? While I may be old and wise enough to have finally figured out that a Lunchable was nothing more than a glorified cracker with fake cheese, I don't think that I will ever be too old for a pizza bagel or maybe even the occasional bowl of sugary cereal what can I say? Even the 18-year-old me is still Coo Coo for Cocoa Puffs.
