How to get yourself Off -- Or just Off campus -- Without a Car

-Dartmouth Coach: Yeah, the most obvious option. You don't have to leave campus to pick it up and it's easy to pick up some food from Hop to take with you before you go. (Using DBA instead of dollars is always an excellent choice.) And with the direct trip to New York and Connecticut, it's even faster to get your destination without sacrificing your "executive" style.

-Train from White River Junction: Okay so, the Vermonter line of Amtrak runs everyday all the way from Vermont down to New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore and Washington D.C. It'll even take you to Newark, New Jersey if that need ever, ever arises. Yes the journey will be ridiculously long, but think about the hours as forced time to take care of a lot of reading, or more realistically, catch up on some sleep.

  • Bus from White River Junction: It seems the town is just a bustling hub of transportation. If the Dartmouth Coach destinations are too limiting, break free! All the way into a Greyhound bus...yeah, not the most inviting option. BUT they do travel all over the place if you're itching to get away. And if you're still looking for an off-plan, Greyhound has unlimited passes for up to sixty days.

-Airplane from Manchester: All you need to do is to borrow/bribe your way to a ride to get there.

-Taxi Companies: Big Yellow Taxi Company. It's good to have a backup if the bribe-plan to the airport doesn't work out

-Advanced Transit: So once freshman year I tried to go to Wal-mart on Advanced Transit. It took five hours, only about 40 minutes of that was actual shopping time. On the other hand, I did get an interesting tour through Vermont and New Hampshire, a free ride and some decently priced dorm goods. You could also use AT to go to the Co-op if you're lazy but inclined to cook.

-Walk/Bike all around: Probably the best travel option around here. Word is that you can even get to Norwich this way, though I think that the question here is what the meaning of the word "can" is.
