To Hook Up or Not to Hook Up: A Guide to Sophomore Summer

Sophomore summer may seem like the perfect time to hook up: the weather is nice, clothes start coming off and everyone is drunk almost every night of the week. This may all be true, but one must consider both the pros AND the cons before deciding to hook up with that "really cute and sweet AD" or that "bangin' Tri-Delt." Here's a list of everything to consider before making '08X the "summer of love."

Pros:

You might hook up with someone and develop a lasting relationship, ultimately leading to a marriage in Rollins Chapel and two little legacy children.

Summer term is the closest thing to going to a California school that any Dartmouth student will ever experience.

All the townies are back from school for the summer and looking for a good time.

With all the '08s and '09s gone, you're the hottest (and only) option on campus.

Lighter class load + more pong = no excuse not to.

Cons:

That cute girl/boy that you've never seen before could turn out to be a Camp Dartmouth-er. (Check Dartmouth IDs)

Hooking up on the weekends leaves Foco as the only dining facility to take your new "fling" to the next morning.

Only about of the undergraduate student body is on this summer, meaning you will see them around campus 100 times as much.

The '12s aren't on campus yet, and most '10s already know "how to check Blitz."

Hooking up " air-conditioning = heat stroke.

The SUMMER Dartmouth Seven:

  1. The Phi Delt pool, or what used to be the Phi Delt pool

  2. The rope swing (must be ON the rope swing)

  3. A Camp Dartmouth dorm

  4. Zeta Psi and/or Beta (r.i.p. AZD)

  5. Foco (between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.)

  6. Any sand volleyball court on campus

(found behind Zeta Psi, AXA, and the Choates)

  1. On the river in a canoe rented from Ledyard
