Bite-sized

Valentine's Day is about loving

the one you're with, whether it

be that gentleman caller down the

hall (floor-cest!) or the tripee who

you eat lunch with every week (tripcest!).

Either way, treat yourself to

an easy riff on strawberry shortcake.

Presentation is flexible: you can create

heart shapes out of the berries, cut out hearts in the

pound cake -- just go crazy!

back.

Berry Love Cake

Ingredients

** 1 loaf pound cake

** 2 pints fresh strawberries

** 1 can whipped cream

** White or brown sugar, to taste

** 8 ounces quality bittersweet or white

chocolate, chopped (optional)

Directions

Rinse, trim and halve the strawberries. Set aside in a bowl and sprinkle

with sugar. Mix the berries gently to incorporate the sugar. Let the berries

macerate for 15 minutes.

Horizontally cut the pound cake into eight slices. Lightly toast the slices

so they stand up to the fi lling.

Layer the ingredients in this order: a slice of pound cake, a spoonful or

two of strawberries and fi nally the whipped cream.

If you need some chocolate in your dessert, carefully melt the chocolate

in the microwave. Heat for 20 seconds, whisk and repeat until completely

melted. Drizzle on top for some extra love!
