June 1, 12:05 p.m., East Wheelock Street
Police arrested two underage men for possession of alcohol stemming from an incident that occurred the week before, when the two Dartmouth freshman threw a fire extinguisher through a first floor window of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. They were found by Dartmouth Safety and Security later that evening in Novack Cafe, still intoxicated, which eventually resulted in arrest June 1.
June 1, 1:58 p.m., Rope Ferry Road
Hanover Police arrived on scene responding to a call from a woman saying that a crow had been on Rope Ferry Road performing somersaults for several hours. Upon investigation, police found "no sign of a weird crow."
June 3, 5:03 a.m., South Main Street
A staff member of the Hanover Inn called after discovering an underage female asleep on the sidewalk. The female was awakened, appeared to be intoxicated and taken into police custody. After being placed in a holding cell, she seemed to have difficulty laying down, looked as though she was going to vomit and proceeded to pull up her skirt and urinate on the cell mattress. The 19-year-old, who is not a Dartmouth student, reported having no concept of where she was before being transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Police arrested the individual for unlawful possession of alcohol.
June 3, 9:26 p.m., Maple Street
Police were called to Maple Street after reports that an apparently intoxicated woman was attempting to get into a vehicle. By the time police arrived, the woman, who is 67 years-of-age, had gotten into the car, and driven into the entrance of a parking lot. The right front tire of the car was completely flat from what appeared to be a collision with a curb, and the right front rim had been damaged. The driver was taken into custody.
June 4, 3:23 p.m., Lyme Rd.
Two Dartmouth students came back to ca.m.pus to clear their records of arrest warrants dating back to last year. On August 12, 2006, the Hanover fire department responded to a call about a fire at Chi Gamma Epsilon fraternity. The police were also called, and when they arrived at the scene, they discovered several burn marks on the floor, evidence of fire in a trash can, lighter fluid leaking on the floor and a partially melted bottled of lighter fluid on the desk. Officers also noted that the smoke detectors in the room had been disabled. Warrants were filed against the students for misdemeanor arson, but since the charges were misdemeanors, the students could not be extradited from their home states. Upon returning to campus, the students plead guilty to reckless conduct and were fined $500.
June 8, 2:43 a.m., West Wheelock Street
Officers on patrol passing by 16 West Wheelock Street witnessed a man and woman who appeared to be intoxicated. The woman, who turned out to be 16 years old, fell down, and as her companion attempted to pick her up they both fell. Upon seeing the police, the man fled, leaving police to take care of the girl. When Hanover Police attempted to take the girl into custody, a nearby party of twenty college-aged people surrounded the police officers and began to yell at them, saying they would not allow police to take the girl into custody. After calling Lebanon police for backup, the officers dispersed the crowd and took the girl into custody. After bringing the girl down to the police station, the dispatcher began to receive calls from another female, who first identified herself as the arrested girl's mother, then as her father, and asked for her immediate release. The request was denied.
June 11, 11:30 p.m., Lebanon Street
A man jogging on Occom Ridge Road at 4:15 p.m. was passed repeatedly by a suspicious car. The male driver of the car proceeded to stop the jogger, and offer him oral sex in exchange for $100. The jogger attempted to evade the car to no avail and eventually called the police. Officers on patrol found a car matching the jogger's description later that evening. Upon questioning, the driver admitted to having propositioned the jogger and was arrested for prostitution and related offenses. When asked by officers why he attempted to solicit the jogger, the man replied, "I was just horny."
