On any given Friday night an intimate group can be found on the second floor of any fraternity, passing a joint as philosophical discussion ensues. But some crave more flavor in their blazing locations. Similar to the famous Dartmouth Seven, some have found other unique places on campus to pull out that Ziploc bag and proceed to puff, puff and, ultimately, pass.
1.The Graveyard next to Tuck Mall
When most people end up in the cemetery it's to accomplish a few select goals. Burying people, robbing graves, necrophila and so forth. However, the cemetery at Dartmouth can actually be a decent place to smoke. "I feel like the cemetery was this quaint place to go to freshmen year, when you were still worried about getting caught and breaking the rules. So sitting on top of headstones just made everything more exciting," a junior girl said. Many people mentioned the cemetery as one of the first places they smoked at Dartmouth. Somehow the long and arduous walk to the murky River dorms persuaded many freshmen to stop for a bit and enjoy the company of their friends in a purple haze.
2.The BEMA
Maybe the last time you visited this green grassland was before your DOC trip, but during the warmer days of spring and summer, some people choose to return for a very specific reason. Lying out as the sun sets with a group of friends and some music has been considered a perfect day by some. "Sophomore summer my buddies and I would hang out and watch the sun go down while smoking a joint, honestly it just put us in a perfect mood and I don't think we've ever been as relaxed and close as we were during those summer nights," a senior guy said. "It wasn't solely because we were getting high, but where we were doing it, the overall atmosphere was great." Another senior was especially fond of her memories at the BEMA. "My boyfriend and I would just cuddle and smoke for a bit when it was warm. We would always fall asleep and wake up to a bunch of stars in the sky," she said. Good thing for these two that weed is a nausea supressant, cause I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
3.Near and on the dock of the river
"I once took a walk to the dock when I was having a bad day. I honestly rarely smoke alone but that day I chose to. Just staring straight ahead and capturing the beauty out there made me appreciate Dartmouth and how different this place is from home. I think it was slightly therapeutic if that makes sense," explained a sophomore guy. The river is a place students avoid in the cold months and swarm to when the weather hits 60. The smoking portion of the student population is clearly no different.
- Fire Tower
Located about 8 miles from Hanover the fire tower sits on top of Gile Mountain. Reaching this summit requires an hour-long hike, but rumors attest to the fire tower as the site with the most expansive and majestic views of the area. From this one spot Baker Tower, Killington and Moosilauke can be glimpsed. "I'm not much of a hiker but my friends once in a while take the trail and hang out up there. They say they've had some amazing moments," a sophomore girl said with a sly smile.
