According to a survey conducted by the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, private colleges nationwide received $70 million in gifts as a result of a new tax law that allows people to donate money from their retirement accounts to charities free of income taxes. In collecting the data, the survey asked nearly 700 colleges and universities about donations they had received. The National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities found that the $70 million in gifts was higher than expected due to the limit on giving portion of the new tax law.
