No. 7 Maryland 12, Yale 9
The Terps' Brian Zeller had a season-high four goals and Mike Mollot had a career game, contributing six points, to lead seventh-ranked Maryland to a 12-9 victory over Yale Friday afternoon. The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for Yale.
The Terps took control of the game early. After a Yale goal by Mike Scaglione, Maryland rattled off five goals in the next ten minutes to take a 5-2 advantage at the end of one quarter of play.
The Bulldogs came back in the second period, scoring two goals in the first 4:39 of play, but Maryland stayed in step and still held a three-goal lead going into halftime, 9-6.
The pugnacious Yale squad wouldn't give in, opening the third quarter with two quick goals to come to within a goal of Maryland. The Terps were too much, however, and they scored the next three goals.
Brian Hunt tallied a pair of goals and four assists to lead the Bulldogs with six points while Mike Morris added two goals. Goalie Eric Wenzel made 13 saves. Yale finishes the season 8-5 (3-3 Ivy).
No. 9 Cornell 9, No. 16 Brown 6
Sean Steinwald and Michael Egan each contributed two goals in ninth-ranked Cornell's 9-6 victory over No. 16 Brown Saturday. The win keeps alive Cornell's hopes for an NCAA tournament bid.
The Bears opened up the game with a goal by Jonathon Thompson but the Big Red countered with a goal by Chris Packard. Cornell owned a 4-3 lead at the end of the half.
The Big Red extended its lead to two thanks to Andrew Schardt, but Brown fought back with consecutive goals to bring the score to 5-5. Three consecutive Cornell goals at the end of the third quarter and beginning of the fourth sealed the win however.
Billy Fort led Cornell (9-3, 5-1) with one goal and two assists, while five others each had one goal. Justin Cynar again came up big in the net for Cornell, saving 18 shots.
Brown (7-6, 3-3) was led by Chas Gessner, who scored four goals on the day. Goalie Beret Dickson made eight saves in the first half, but only two more thereafter in the loss.
No. 12 Notre Dame 11, Harvard 10
Tom Glatzel netted four goals and David Ulrich contributed five assists to help No. 12 Notre Dame overcome a four-goal deficit and emerge with an 11-10 victory over Harvard Sunday afternoon.
The Crimson started the game with an unassisted goal by Adam McGowan. After two goals by the Irish, Harvard answered with two man-up goals in the closing minute of the first quarter. Matt Primm scored a goal with 1:38 remaining in the half to give Harvard a 5-4 lead.
The Crimson took command early in the third quarter, scoring three more unanswered goals to seize a daunting 8-4 lead, the biggest of the game.
Notre Dame was unfazed. With 4:22 remaining in the third period, the Irish finally broke out, pelting the Harvard defense with five goals to finish the quarter. Two by John Flandina gave Notre Dame a three-goal lead with 6:32 to play.
Primm scored five goals in the loss. Keith Cynar stopped 16 shots for 6-6 Harvard (2-3).
