The Harlem Globetrotters will play the New York Nationals for a sold-out crowd in Leede Arena tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
Kim Garvey, Vice President of Corporate Communications for the Globetrotters, promised that fans would see "great basketball and great entertainment."
The visit is part of the Globetrotter's 2000 tour, the team's 74th season since they first played in 1927. The tour lasts until early April and takes the team around the country, where they play in a different city every night.
The team likes to play in college towns so coming to Hanover, "fits right in with what we like to do," Garvey said.
The team dealt directly with the College and since their visit is not sponsored by any student organizations, no tickets were set aside especially for students. The game was advertised locally and tickets have been on sale since February 26th.
In keeping with their goodwill mission the players will stay around for at least fifteen minutes after the game to meet the fans and sign autographs.
The Globetrotters have played over 20,000 games since they first played on Jan. 7, 1927. The team had not lost since September 12, 1995, when they were defeated 91-85 by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's Legendary All-Stars, ending an 8,829 game winning streak, which had been in place since 1971. Since 1995 they have compiled a streak of over 1,200 games.
When asked for a comment on the National's chances Garvey said "We like to believe that on any given night either team has a chance of winning."
The Nationals have been the Globetrotter's opponents ever since the Washington Generals closed down in 1995.
