The Student Life Initiative process has entered its next phase as the Task Force begins compiling student responses to the steering committee recommendations and drafting its report for the Board of Trustees.
The Task Force, which plans to deliver student responses to the Trustees without passing its own judgment, has set March 7 as a deadline for writing a draft report, Task Force co-chair and Student Assembly President Dean Krishna '00 said.
"There definitely isn't a lack of reading material," Krishna said. Referring to the upcoming task of writing the report, he said, "this is the challenging part ahead of us."
The Task Force plans to check all accumulated messages sent to its BlitzMail account and to its website over the weekend, but after that, it will not receive any more student input. A few student organizations were, however, were given an extension.
"Some groups contacted us ahead of time and said they won't finish on time," Krishna said. "We gave them 'til Monday."
According to Krishna, the Task Force Report will be split into eight sections -- the first seven will deal specifically with the seven recommendations of the steering committee report, while the eighth section will focus on topics student felt had been omitted by the report, but the sections are open to review by other members of the Task Force.
Members of the Task Force have divided the responsibility for drafting each section of the report.
Krishna said that he and graduate student Andy Mengshol, the other student co-chair of the Task Force, will finalize the report over spring break and mail it to the Trustees as soon as possible.
Krishna told The Dartmouth that although student responses were coming slowly in the beginning, they came "pouring in" Friday. A more accurate figure of the number and kind of student responses will be available after the BlitzMail account is cleared.
"We've been impressed so far," Krishna said. "Most of what we've heard has been thoughtful and well-presented."
