34 seniors run for exec. comm.

The Class of 2000 Senior Executive Committee -- a 20 member group that will be in charge of class activities for the next five years -- will be announced this afternoon, following yesterday's election.

Members of the 2000 class voted online yesterday to select 12 representatives of the committee from the 34 on the ballot.

The remaining 8 members will be selected by a committee, who will review applications submitted by the nominees. The selection committee is made up of Director of Student Activities Linda Kennedy, Dean of Student Life Holly Sateia, 2000 Class Dean Teoby Gomez and Stacy Wooley, the assistant director of Alumni Relations.

The Senior Executive Committee will organize all class events after graduation, including mini-reunions, the class newsletter, contributions to the Alumni Magazine and maintenance of the class web page. Their responsibilities will culminate in the planning of the fifth year reunion in 2005.

Eric Buchman, 2000 Class Council president, said he hoped to be elected to the committee to continue his involvement with the class. He said membership would be the next step after working on the class council.

Lauren Scopaz '00 said that she hoped to be elected in order to get more involved in class activities, something she didn't have the time to do as a member of the field hockey team.

"I feel like now I'll have the time and I'm really interested in being involved with the class activities," Scopaz said. Asserting that the first five years after graduation is the best time to keep the class unified, Scopaz said she is not worried about the five year commitment.

After the 20 members are announced, the committee will elect officers and the president of the newly-formed committee and appoint several positions to distribute the responsibilities of the committee.

The first job of the committee will be to plan activities for Class Day and nominate student marshalls and flag bearers for Commencement.

After graduation, the officers of the committee will also be expected to return to Hanover once a year to attend Class Officer Weekend.
