Ten years after having graduated from Dartmouth, the Class of 1989 is coming back to Hanover to reunite with their colleagues and reminisce their glorious green past.
The Class of '89 reunion has been combined with the Class of '88 and '90 reunions. Ellie Loughin '89, reunion chair, told The Dartmouth that approximately 1800 people including alumni and their families are expected from the three classes next weekend.
A dinner and dance has been organized for next Friday. The three classes plan to enjoy the radiant sunshine picnicking at Storrs Pond on Saturday and a brunch has been organized near the football field on Sunday.
Introspecting on the change the College has undergone since she was a student here, Loughlin said Dartmouth has become more serious academically. Even though "students have the same sort of fun," Dartmouth is a little more intellectual, she added.
Referring to Dartmouth's highly competitive admission process in recent years, Loughlin said, "I could have never gotten in now."
Reminiscing about her Dartmouth years, she, said "it was all so amazing." Loughlin, whose husband is also an '89, said her best memory of Dartmouth was meeting him. "My best friends now are my best friends at Dartmouth," Loughlin added.
Complaining about how current Dartmouth students don't rush the football field during games, Loughlin told The Dartmouth that in her freshmen year 300 members of the Class of '89 rushed the Harvard football field and made an "89" on the ground. As they climbed back up into the stands, Harvard students tried to hit the '89s with umbrellas, Loughlin said.
Denying claims that the Trustee Initiative has had any effect on the reunion attendance, Loughlin said alumni reactions to the Five Principles range from "this is absurd" to "this is what I have been waiting for since my years at the College."
She said the College has been "pretty vague" to the alumni regarding the Initiative and everyone is curious to find out more when they come to Hanover for their reunion.
