With Student Assembly elections beginning April 19, the list of official candidates was released yesterday -- a list that includes four presidential candidates and three for vice president. The election comes at a time of increased student interest in the Assembly as a result of the controversial residential and social life initiative being implemented by the College's Board of Trustees.
The four presidential candidates are Dean Krishna '01, Tom Leatherbee '01, Roshan Shah '01 and Casey Sixkiller '00.
The three vice presidential candidates are Joe Brown '00, Margaret Kuecker '01 and Anna Van Meter '01.
Krishna is a member of the Assembly and is chair of the Student Organizations Committee. Last year Krishna was the representative for Milan, the South Asian Student Association. Krishna is a brother in Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.
Leatherbee is an Assembly member who since Winter term has chaired the Social Space Task Force and is the Chair of Campus Working Group Number 2. He is unaffiliated.
Shah is representing The Jack-O-Lantern as its candidate. Shah has been involved with class council and is a member of Alpha Delta fraternity.
Sixkiller is a member of Native Americans at Dartmouth. He is the only member of the Class of 2000 to officially enter the presidential race.
For Vice President, Brown has been involved in Class Council and served as secretary last term. Brown is involved with the Dartmouth Outing Club and WFRD and WDCR -- the College's AM and FM radio stations. Brown is unaffiliated.
Kuecker was secretary for the Assembly for one term. This past Winter term she was the Chair of the Communications Committee. Kuecker is a Sexual Abuse Peer Advisor and a Delta Delta Delta sorority sister.
Van Meter is the Jack-O-Lantern's vice presidential candidate and a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She is on the 2001 Class Council.
Although these candidates are the only ones whose names will appear on the ballots April 19, there is still the possibility that write-in candidates will enter the race. Two years ago, Nahoko Kawakyu '99 won the Assembly's vice presidency while running as a write-in candidate.
