Article Failed to Represent Positive Aspects of Tueting's Successful Athletic Career

To the Editor:

I am writing in response to the article "Tueting won gold, but lost respect of teammates" [The Dartmouth, Feb. 19]. I was unaware of The Dartmouth's custom to belittle successful Dartmouth students who have had the good fortune of a national spotlight. But now that I am, here's a suggestion: why stop at Sarah? Gretchen Ulion '94 was also a key member of the U.S. women's hockey team. I suggest finding everybody who has a negative comment to say about her and publishing another two pages of tabloid smut.

The cruel misrepresentations in the article are too numerous to list. I only wish that the reporter would have bothered to consult the many students, professors and other members of the Dartmouth community whose lives Sarah has enriched. When Sarah returns to campus in a few weeks, we will continue to support her like we did before she won an Olympic medal. It's a shame that The Dartmouth and a few Dartmouth students lack the decency to do the same.
