If Tubestock and Parents' Weekends weren't exciting enough for you, maybe this weekend's "Fun in the Sun" Summer Carnival activities will be.
Including a carnival on the Green, a block party and a charity car wash, the weekend will offer many different activities sponsored by a diverse group of campus organizations.
Programming Board co-Chair Shauna Brown '99 said she has high hopes for the Summer Carnival activities.
She said because the Class of 1999 is so active she thought it would not be very difficult to "get a whole lot of groups involved to make a Summer Carnival that everyone would enjoy."
Because many groups are responsible for organizing this weekend's events, she sees the carnival as an opportunity to take advantage of the different resources available to students.
Brown said that this weekend has been planned as a relaxed one because it is the "third big weekend in a row; first Tubestock, then Parents Weekend and now Summer Carnival."
The festivities start tomorrow afternoon with the Greek Week Block Party, which will be held on Webster Avenue from 4 to 8 p.m.. The party will feature the band Groovemerchant outside of Chi Gamma Epsilon fraternity, and food will be served at Kappa Kappa Kappa fraternity.
Alpha Phi Alpha President and Coed Fraternity Sorority Council programming liaison Folarin Dosunmu '99 said he thinks the block party will be successful.
He added that the Spring term block party was "very nice and once the sun came out a lot of people came out."
Later in the evening, Friday Night Dance Club in Collis Common Ground will take place, sponsored by the Afro-American Society, La Alianza Latina and the Programming Board.
On Saturday, there will be a Carnival held on the Green which will include a human Gyroscope, a dunk tank, games, food tie-dying and a live band.
Brown said the weekend would be "a hang-out time when people can play in the gyroscope or just eat some cotton candy."
Crewe Leroux, the band that will be playing on the Green, plays Cajun zydeco music, according to Assistant Director of Student Activities Linda Kennedy.
"Who would have thought Blunt would be useful to show movies on?" she said, referring to the screening of "Scream" on the side of Blunt Alumni Center Saturday night at 10 p.m., an event sponsored by Kappa Delta Epsilon sorority.
Summer Carnival will involve bringing as many people together as possible, she said. "I just really hope it will really bring everyone out because we are all so involved in it."
In addition, Summer Carnival coincides with Greek Week. "Greek Week is just a time for Greeks to relax and party and still do community service which they do through out the term," Dosunmu said.
The Interfraternity Council and the Panhellenic Council will be sponsoring a charity carwash on Sunday afternoon on Webster Ave. between Chi Gam and KDE. All proceeds will benefit the New Hampshire chapter of the American Diabetes Association.
Dosunmu said there is not a fixed price for each carwash and that it is up to car owners to determine what size donation they would like to make.
"While you wait, there will be a free barbecue," he said.
IFC Programming Chair Chris Chang '99 said because the money raised from the wash will be donated to a national charity, "hopefully a lot of the community will show up."
Summer Carnival Programming is being sponsored by the 1999 Class Council, the AAm, Chi Gam, the CFSC, Epsilon Kappa Theta sorority, the IFC, KDE, La Alianza Latina, Panhell, the Programming Board and Sexual Awareness through Greek Education.
