Two staff members from the Office of Residential Life, Bud Beatty and Chris Foley, have accepted positions at other institutions for the upcoming academic year.
ORL has not yet planned a search for replacements, Director of Housing Services Lynn Rosenblum said.
Beatty, who was the College's Associate Director of Residential Life, has already left for Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He will serve as Bowling Green's Director of Student Housing and Residential Programs.
Beatty has been at the College for 11 years and is currently on vacation. He will begin his new job next week.
Vice President of Student Affairs at Bowling Green Ed Whipple, said Beatty will oversee Bowling Green's housing program, which includes 6,200 of the university's 17, 000 students living in residence halls, fraternities and sororities.
"In some ways it's similar to Dartmouth, but on a larger scale," Whipple said. He added that Bowling Green was interested in obtaining Beatty's experience in residential housing.
"We were very interested in him and were impressed with the experience he'd had at Dartmouth," he said. "We're very excited to have him on board."
Beatty's understanding of a residential academic community will be useful at his new job, Whipple said.
"We're moving to increase our academic focus in the living units," he said. "He will be a tremendous addition."
Beatty has kept his decision to leave the College rather quiet, according to both Whipple and Rosenblum.
ORL's Area Director of East campus Chris Foley has also decided to change jobs after spending two years at the College. Foley said he accepted a position at Kings College in Pennsylvania as Director of Residential Life and Orientation.
"I will finish here on August 8, begin there on Aug. 11," he said. "They're on a semester system, so it's important that I am there for staff training."
Foley said his original plan was to be at Dartmouth for three years, but his relationship with his girlfriend caused him to rethink his plans.
"The woman I am seeing is Director of Residential Life at Cedarcrest College in Allentown, Penn. That set me on the idea of looking for work," he said.
The new job will provide Foley with career advancement, he said.
Foley will have more responsibilities in the new position. He said he will be in charge of operations, housing assignments and staff supervision at the smaller school.
"It's sort of like if you took the East campus here and made that the entire residential system," he said.
"There are many things that are similar about the jobs -- Kings College is a 1700-student Catholic school," he said. "The Catholic nature of the college will change some things -- not being Catholic, I'm not quite sure what, though."
Foley said although he will enjoy the change, he will also miss Dartmouth.
"I really enjoyed my time here. It was a wonderful professional experience, and I would like to thank everyone for the opportunity I have been given here," Foley said.
Rosenblum said both Foley and Beatty will be missed at ORL. "I've worked with Bud over the past five years," she said. "We're going to miss him."
She said Beatty's new position at Bowling Green will be a "wonderful opportunity" for him.
