Continuing its 17-year winning streak, Hanover has again been named a Tree City USA.
The Tree City USA program is a project of the National Arbor Day Foundation, based in Nebraska City, Neb. It encourages tree care and tree planting programs, according to a Town of Hanover press release.
Interim Town Manager Jean Ulman said Hanover will receive the honor once again for the town's tree planting activities.
"We have a very efficient tree planting program," she said.
The program is overseen by Bill Dash, Hanover superintendent of buildings and grounds, she said.
Mary Reynolds, the director of the Urban Forestry Center, will present the Tree City USA flag to the town of Hanover May 3, at the Bernice A. Ray Elementary School, according to the press release.
The flag will hang inside Hanover's town hall, Ulman said.
John Rosenow, president of the National Arbor Day Foundation, said "trees make a world of difference in our communities," according to the press release.
"An effective community forestry program is an ongoing process of renewal and improvement --a program of tree planting and care that continues through the years," he said. "The Tree City USA award is an excellent indication that there is a solid foundation for that process of improvement."
