Currier '97 elected new president of DOC

The Dartmouth Outing Club elected Megan Currier '97 to be its president, and Kevin Hand '97 will serve as the DOC's new vice president.

"I'm very excited," Currier said. "I think it's going to be a great year, and I'm really looking forward to it."

Currier said she would like to see the DOC play a greater role on campus -- especially during Homecoming, Winter Carnival and Green Key weekends.

"I believe that the Outing Club makes the outdoors more accessible to students," she said.

"I'd like students to try not just one, but all the activities of the DOC," she said.

Currier was active in the Cabin and Trail division of the Outing club and has been involved in the other divisions as well.

Hand is currently on his leave term where he is working in New Mexico, Currier said.

Every member of the DOC was invited to vote in the elections held Monday evening, said Pamela Brockmeier '95, the previous president of the club.

Megan Currier was the only candidate on campus this term, Brockmeier said. The other candidates had friends read the speeches they mailed in.

Once the speeches were given, the floor was opened to questions, she said. Then a blind vote was taken.

Other nominees for president included Carter Wray '97 and Heather Halstead '96.
