Critically acclaimed as one of the most sought-after musicians of the younger generation, the Lark string quartet will perform tonight at the Hopkins Center for the fourth time in two years.
The ensemble, consisting of Eva Gruesser, Jennifer Orchard, Anna Kruger and Astrid Schween, will perform Joseph Haydn's "String Quartet in E Flat Major," known as "The Joke;" Alexander Zemlinsky's "String Quartet No. 4" and Aleksandr Borodin's "String Quartet No. 2."
The quartet's performances are marked with a high levels of intensity and energy, though their serious approach to music is tempered with a composed demeanor on stage.
Though the quartet was founded in 1985, it did not take long before they drew the attention of the music community worldwide. They were awarded top prizes at the London International String Quartet competition (1991), the Melbourine International Chamber Music Competition (1991), the Paola Borciani Competition in Italy (1990) and the Banff Competition in Canada (1986).
Their most recent accomplishments include concerts in New York's Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. and the Ordway Theater in St. Paul, Minn.
Tickets for tonight's 8 p.m. concert are available at the Hopkins Center box office. Tickets are $14.50 for reserved seats and $7.50 for all Dartmouth students.
