Dixon '95 fined $200 for disorderly conduct

Judge Joseph Daschbach found Guy Dixon '95 guilty of disorderly conduct slapped Dixon with a $200 fine yesterday morning in Hanover District Court.

Dixon, who is 23 and a brother in Alpha Delta fraternity, was arrested late in the evening of April 19, when he and a number of other students allegedly ran naked across East Wheelock Street.

Dixon pleaded no contest to the charge of disorderly conduct, and Daschbach suspended half the penalty because "he didn't think the offense was that grave," Dixon's lawyer Kim Keating said.

Keating said Dixon had previously been charged with indecent exposure and resisting arrest, but the state dropped those misdemeanors charges.

"The state brought a new charge [disorderly conduct] which isn't a crime, but a violation," Keating said. The violation will be dropped from Dixon's record after one year, Keating said.

Court documents stated Dixon "did commit the offense of disorderly conduct in that he recklessly created a risk of a breach of peace, public inconvenience, by running down the sidewalk of East Wheelock St. in the town of Hanover without any clothes on, East Wheelock being a public place."

Dixon said he is satisfied with the outcome of the case.

"I'm disappointed I had to go through the process but happy with how it turned out," he said.

College officials would not comment on whether the College is investigating the matter. But Dixon said both the College and Daschbach "realize it was something stupid but it wasn't a crime."

Dixon said the judge thought "streaking is a prank and there is no intention to harm."

Keating said the judge had a sense of humor about the affair.

"He said, 'Oh, Mr. Dixon, I believe your case has achieved notoriety,' " Keating said.

At 11:37 p.m. on April 19, Safety and Security officers told Hanover Police that 30 to 40 students were running naked near The Hopkins Center for Performing Arts. Hanover Police responded to the call and chased the students, but only arrested Dixon.

Dixon told The Associated Press at the time that he and other members of AD were bored and "just decided to streak the Green."

Dixon said yesterday he was the only one to run naked.

But Hanover Police Officer John Kapusta said, "When I got there I saw at least 10 who were nude and probably 10 more who were clothed."
