The Hanover Winter Games, originally scheduled for Jan. 28 and later postponed until Feb. 4, have been canceled.
The ice on Occom Pond, where many of the events were to have taken place, was simply too thin for safety, said Chris Vitale, assistant recreation director for Hanover Parks and Recreation.
The ice on the pond, while thick enough in the center, was too thin around the edges to allow safe access for participants, she said.
Vitale previously said there needed to be 10 inches of ice on Occom Pond for the games.
The choice to cancel the event was "a joint decision between the College and the town," she said.
The events that were scheduled included a human bobsled race, a speed skating competition and a hockey shoot-out.
The games are planned for Super Bowl weekend next year.
