To the Editor:
Your editorial last Wednesday ("A Cause for Outrage?") was way off base. When trying to point out student political apathy, blaming students for reacting to civil rights violations does not help your argument.
The Constitution protects our right to atheism, our right to revolution, and yes, our right to party. The Hanover Police Department knows it is treading on very thin legal ice when it makes an arrest for "internal possession." If we as citizens ignore this violation by the authorities, we are simply inviting more abuses in the future.
We can call such violations trivial and go on with some grandiose scheme to save the world. We can also start the fight here and now, with abuses that affect us and are within our means to change.
