Tigers edge tennis in 2nd round of NCAAs

In an amazing come-from-behind victory, the men's tennis team stunned Columbia University, 4-3, in the first round playoffs of the NCAA Eastern Regionals at Harvard Saturday.

But unable to maintain the momentum, the Big Green were then eliminated by Princeton University, 4-3, Sunday.

"I felt pretty good with how we played," Mike DeGuzman '94 said. "We were very close on Sunday, and we matched up with them very well. We fought well, but just couldn't pull it out."

The Big Green started off strong by unexpectedly capturing the doubles point and continued to show the persistence and strong will that has been prevalent all year.

Jim Rich '96 , down 5-1 in the third set, rallied to capture the match in a 7-5 third set battle. That victory, along with wins from Randy White '94 and Chase Arnold '95 captured the match for the Big Green.

On Sunday, Rich dropped a close 7-5 third set and the men were unable to start off strong by winning the doubles point. The three seniors on the team, Dan Coakley '94, Randy White '94 and DeGuzman fought through tough Tiger opponents and earned Dartmouth its three points.
