Green Key gets theme

The 73rd annual Green Key Weekend on May 13-15 will be the first time the special weekend features a theme.

Called "Helldorado," the weekend intends to capture the spirit of "a country fair, a day in the sun," said Brian Greenberg '95, a member of the Green Key planning committee. It will include "good music, good food and good friends all on the Green in one big, giant extravaganza," he said.

The main attraction of Helldorado will be a day-long festival on the Green Saturday including music, food, comedy and games.

A country/rock band from Boston, called The Swinging Steaks, will give the main musical performance from 2 to 4 p.m on Saturday. During the set breaks, The Dog Day Players, a Dartmouth improvisational comedy group, and campus comedian Chris Foley '95 will perform for 15 minutes each.

The Programming Board is planning "Green Key Olympics," in which various campus groups such as fraternities, sororities and dorm clusters will compete for a prize in events, including pie eating contests, three-legged races and miniature golf.

In addition, college organizations will have booths set up on the Green with food, games and activities such as face painting. Prizes will be given out to the booths with the best food and games.

Green Key t-shirts will be for sale and there will be a booth for tie dying. The final design for the t-shirts has not yet been decided, said Kerri Cavanaugh '95, chair of the Green Key planning committee.

The committee is also organizing a petting farm with cows, goats and donkeys to be the Green.

Kicking off the whole weekend Thursday at Webster Hall will be Cracker and The Meat Puppets.

The concert will be held at 8 p.m. and tickets are $14 for undergraduates and $18 for the general public.

On Friday night the "Spring Sing," an annual a capella concert, will be held in Spaulding Auditorium. The groups performing include Dartmouth's Decibelles and Aires as well as other singing groups from visiting schools.
