To the Editor:

I would like to correct an erroneous statement printed in The Dartmouth on Tuesday, March 8th ("Women's Health Services support pregnant students; condoms, pill most popular") that concerns RU 486.

RU 486 is the French abortion pill and is very different from "the morning after pill." RU 486 is not available in the United States; it is a pill that induces spontaneous abortion up to 12 weeks into a pregnancy. RU 486 is not available at Dick's House.

The "morning after pill" is a postcoital hormonal method of preventing pregnancy. It is available at Dick's House and must be used within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse.

I appreciate the opportunity to clarify this important information.
