Ullion '94 chosen to play for Team USA

As if rewriting the Dartmouth women's hockey record book was not enough, Gretchen Ulion '94 added a position on the United States women's ice hockey team to her ever growing shopping list of accomplishments.

Ulion was named to the team by Hockey USA on March 16 and will participate with the squad in the World Championships to be held April 11-17 at Lake Placid, N.Y.

Team USA will play three games in the pool-play competition, with the consolation and medal rounds coming afterward. Switzerland, Germany and Finland will challenge Team USA in contests on April 11, 12 and 14, respectively.

Of the team of twenty, Ulion is one of just nine current collegiate players and is the third youngest player on the roster. Given her achievements at Dartmouth, Ulion's youth is in no way a handicap.

Ulion holds just about every major scoring record imaginable. She led the Big Green to Ivy League Championships in two of her four seasons (1990-91 and 1992-93).

Ulion was named Ivy League Player of the Year in her junior and senior years, as well as Ivy League Rookie of the Year in 1990-91. She has been honored as Ivy League Player of the Week a total of nine times over her four seasons wearing a Dartmouth sweater.

As a freshman, Ulion was named Dartmouth's Rookie of the Year and was honored as a second team All-Ivy selection.

Ulion has also been named first team All-ECAC and second team All-ECAC her junior and senior seasons, respectively.

Among her more notable accomplishments on the Thompson Arena ice, Ulion holds Dartmouth records in points in a season (85), points in a career (312), hat-tricks in a career (28), power play goals in a season (11), power play goals in a career (34), goals in a career (189) and goals in a game (8).

Ulion also holds Ivy records in goals in a game (8), season (23) and career (84) and points in a game (11).

Team USA has won the silver medal in each of the last two world championships.

Karen Kay of the University of New Hampshire and John Marchetti of Providence College will lead the team into competition on April 11 against Switzerland.
