Velcro-wall jumping at Cactus Jack's in White River Junction. Sledding on the grass with a block of ice. A finger-painting party. These are some of the suggestions Dartmouth seniors recommended as social options for students in a panel discussion sponsored by Asgard last night.
Seven members of the class of '94 participated in the discussion, titled "Social Options at Dartmouth: Stories by Seniors," held in 105 Dartmouth Hall. About 30 students attended the event.
The panel was designed to help students learn about "things I wish I had taken advantage of as a first-year student," panel moderator Mishuana Goeman '94 said.
Goeman said many of her '94 friends discussed the evolution of their social lives and "realized we were just finding out about social options at Dartmouth" as seniors.
Two major problems limiting Dartmouth students' social life are age and transportation, campus disc jockey Steve Villanueva '94 said.
"Keep an eye out for parties that are thrown by special interest groups," Villanueva said, "They are usually a lot of fun."
Martha Douple '94, former Dartmouth Outing Clubs Trips director, spoke of her experiences in the outdoors at Dartmouth.
"There are so many things, both structured and not [structured], that you can do here," she said.
"[The Upper Valley area is] not a city," Lai Heng Foong '94 said, "But there are a lot of things that are hidden away for you to discover."
The seniors also recommended murder mystery parties, roller skating, capture-the-flag games in the graveyard, midnight hikes on the Appalachian trail and campouts around the Hanover area.
