The Dartmouth water polo team competed in its second tournament this weekend at Williams College.
The Big Green finished with a 2-2 record to secure a third place finish in the Eastern Division of the Eastern Water Polo Association rankings and received a bid to the EWPA championships. The team currently holds a 6-2 record.
The tournament started well for Dartmouth as they held off Tufts for a 12-11 victory. Chuck Kenyon '94 scored six goals including the winner with 19 seconds to go. A second quarter ejection to Jon Kenyon '97 and a fourth quarter ejection to Alison Wilson '97 hurt the Big Green offensively but they hung on for the win.
The second game was against tournament host Williams. The home team jumped out to a 4-0 lead and never looked back on its way to a 14-6 win that handed Dartmouth its first loss of the season. Both Kenyons and Howie Silverman '97 scored goals in the loss, but again both Jon Kenyon and Silverman were ejected in the second half.
Dartmouth's problems continued against Yale as both Silverman and Jamie Keenan '96 were ejected not only from the game but from the entire pool area. Yale won, 12-7, despite five goals from Chuck Kenyon and eleven saves by goalie Kevin O'Neil '97.
Dartmouth came back in its final game to defeat Boston University, 14-8. Jon Kenyon led the team with five goals and was backed up by goals from Chuck Kenyon, Silverman and Bob Halk '94. Dartmouth raised the team ejection total to seven when Wilson was thrown out in the first quarter.
For the tournament, Chuck Kenyon had 16 points, Jon Kenyon had nine points and Silverman had five points including two 2-pointers. O'Neil turned in another stellar performance in goal with 36 saves. Dartmouth's season continues in two weeks at the Ivy League tournament at Harvard.
