Women artists from the College yesterday transformed drab Alumni Hall into a festive celebration of music, song, food and artwork.
At the Women's Resource Center Student Art Exhibit there were etchings, paintings, photographs, poetry and pottery, all produced by women. Throughout the three hour event, there were various musical performances by women.
Mishuana Goeman '94, one of the producers of the event, called it a "women's extravaganza," and she said she helped bring all the female artists together to "celebrate all different kinds and forms of arts."
A small group of students including Renee Reed '93, Shannon Sullivan '94 and Lisa Turner '94 helped to put the exhibit on.
There were exhibits by Pam Adelstein '93, Rebecca Eldredge '94, Melanie Fitzpatrick '93, Julie Kanarowski '95, Alicia Lisowksi '95, Phoebe Manchester '96, Nicole Nelson '93, Erin Rowland '93, Devyani Sharma '96, Jen Skoda '94, Omolara Smith '93, Lynn Trujillo '94 and Deborah Vogel '94.
Goeman said although there have been art shows before, other shows haven't been "as much of a performance -- they've never tried to make it this big."
Goeman said she thought the idea behind the exhibit was good. "Another group of women could get together in the future," she said. "It is possible to do these things."
But she said in the future student groups will have to publicize the event more. "There wasn't as good a showing as we would like there to be," she said.
According to Goeman, Casque and Gauntlet, Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority, the Panhellenic Council and the Women's Resource Center helped sponsor the event.
