Cafe reopens

The Dirt Cowboy Cafe reopened yesterday, a week after owner and manager Thomas Guerra abandoned the coffee house.

The cafe was reopened by co-owner David Pambianchi, a New York school teacher who came to Hanover this past weekend after hearing of his partner's reported nervous breakdown and sudden departure.

Pambianchi plans to sell the cafe as soon as possible. He said he reopened to help pay off debts and to provide a smooth transition for the next owner.

"The objective now is to get things back to normal and sell the place," Pambianchi said.

Since placing a "for sale" sign on Saturday, Pambianchi said he has received approximately 20 offers.

Despite the many offers, Pambianchi said he feels the majority of the offers will not lead to anything.

"About 80 percent are wishy-washy," he said.

Pambianchi also said he expects to pay all the former employees their back salary, but how soon he does that depends on the performance of the coffee house this week.

Arturo and Claudio Guerra, Thomas Guerra's father and brother respectively, are currently gaining legal control of Thomas' share of the business in order to expedite selling it, Pambianchi said.

According to Pambianchi, the cafe will be open daily from eleven a.m. to midnight for the time being.
