Man charged for July 27 assault

Sean Merrihew, 23, of Lebanon, is charged with second-degree assault for allegedly attacking Mark Cookson, 53, of Hanover, on West Wheelock Street late last month.

Merrihew was released on a $10,000 bail and will appear in Lebanon’s second circuit court on Sept. 15, Hanover Police announced Tuesday morning.

The assault occurred early in the morning of July 27, close to Robert’s Flowers. A Safety and Security Officer saw the altercation when on patrol and alerted Hanover Police.

In a July 27 interview, Safety and Security director Harry Kinne said that an officer had seen two individuals fleeing the scene and that witnesses said two people, a man and a woman, had assaulted the victim.

Hanover Police chief Charlie Dennis said he could not disclose information on the woman, as the investigation is ongoing.
