CALM BEFORE THE STORM: A rainbow graces the sky above Dartmouth Hall shortly before the effects of Hurricane Sandy arrived Monday afternoon.

Hanover felt Hurricane Sandy’s effects on Monday, with rain and heavy winds as the storm landed in New Jersey.

Students rushed indoors in the hours leading up to Hurricane Sandy’s arrival in Hanover. Classes post-3 p.m. were canceled on Monday.

Sandbags were used to protect windows of the East Wheelock residential cluster in preparation for Hurricane Sandy.

Students unsuccessfully try to fly kites on the Green as winds pick up around 4 p.m. on Monday.

The Dartmouth men’s hockey team defeated Yale University for the first time since February 2008 with a shootout win against the Bulldogs on Friday.
