Following in the footsteps of such YouTube-stars-turned-celebrities as Justin Bieber, Los Angeles-based comedian GloZell Green has risen to fame with her critical and hilarious “translations” of popular songs. Although she doesn’t bash the songs entirely, GloZell highlights the ambiguous lyrics that most people overlook with a comedic reading of the song, complete with her own enlightening side comments. To Ke$ha’s lyric, “Pedicure on our toes, toes,” GloZell responds, “Where else is a pedicure supposed to go? On your face?” Along with “TiK ToK,” GloZell has also posted “translations” of “Blah Blah Blah,” Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” and Young Money’s “BedRock.” On top of her song commentaries, GloZell has a blog and posts videos that discuss everything from her hair treatments to Bop It to push-up bras. GloZell may not have helped with my studies, but she definitely made me laugh — and encouraged me to take a new look at the lyrics of many Top 40 songs.
